Description

A few months ago I found on the Internet (maybe on deviant art) a black-and-white photo of a tall tree. I took it as a basis of my drawing. Some branches on the photo were without leaves. The picture seemed a bit gloomy and pessimistic, so I made a few changes.
I had lots of different images that I planned to use later. When I see a good picture I think, “I should do something like this.” But usually it turns out that I don’t have time or skills to do it right away and I just forget it. From time to time (like twice a year) I look through those images and say to myself, “I’ll surely do it some day.” It happens over and over again. The day I finished the first drawing (the big one) I decided to make something else in that style and that was a good opportunity to put into practice some of those ideas. My goal was to draw a series of similar trees against different backgrounds. For the picture with the sea (yes, it is a sea! If you try hard enough, you can make out the waves) I used a Cyprus picture. The tree was different and I had to rearrange some details to make the composition more suitable for my purpose. I found the idea for the other one in an old book about Africa. Although the prints were of bad quality they attracted my attention with beautiful scenes. A few years ago, when I only started, I tried to pain those landscapes (I’m really ashamed of them now). I was full of beans that time, but even then I realized that I couldn’t make it good enough. The fact that I’m quite satisfied with my work proves (at least to me) that I’m moving in the right direction.
